Gemütlichkeit

a feeling of warmth, friendliness, and good cheer with a sense of belonging.

Our Story

Mark and Dylan met at Texas A&M University in the Corps of Cadets. The first year was full of supervised character building (totally not hazing) and Corps mandated sensitivity training; so, there were not a lot of opportunities for friendship or cross class camaraderie. It was not until the following year that the two formed a strong friendship fueled by their love of craft beer.

After graduation, Dylan moved to Fort Worth while Mark and his wife, Samantha, moved to Dallas; each pursuing careers in something that actually related to their fields of study. One year, Samantha, like a knight in shining armor, gifted Mark a home brewing kit for his birthday. From that first simple batch, brewed in a tiny apartment closet, bubbled a big dream.

Mark and Samantha moved to the Texas Hill Country where Mark continued teaching and took on a part-time position working at a local brewery. When the school year ended, Mark took a leap of faith began pursuing brewing full time. Since then, Mark has worked at two breweries as head brewer, and has won numerous awards. Dylan frequently traveled to Hill Country to explore the local beer offerings with his friends.

Though it started as a playful concept, Dylan and Mark eventually realized their shared passion for craft beer could be turned into a business.

Lago Vista Brewing Company got promoted from "dream" to "reality" when we closed on the land for the brewery in April 2020. We purchased the property amid the uncertainties of the pandemic from an overseas seller. Due to the newly unveiled travel restrictions in Malaysia, the seller required a police escort to the US embassy to sign the property over to us. Quite a dramatic experience for all involved!

The obstacles did not stop there. Building during the pandemic, climbing interest rates, and supply shortages brought us some unique challenges. Despite the difficulties we faced, Mark, Samantha, Dylan, and his wife Cheyenne persisted.

We have traveled to many places around the world but have always found the best conversations are born in a biergarten. We wanted to bring that to the North Shore. Over the last few years, we have been envisioning what we want you to experience when you walk through our doors. We want you to feel Gemütlichkeit, like you belong at our table, because you do!
